Workforce Singapore and Career Programmes Helped Over 10,000 Employees Last Year
Workforce Singapore and career programmes helped over 10,000 employees last year by filling positions or transforming their jobs to make them more attractive.
Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) reported that this was a 45% increase from 2019. 90% of those helped by the Workforce Singapore and career programmes were small and medium enterprises (SMEs). To meet the changing manpower demands, the Workforce Singapore and career programmes boosted outreach activities. They also introduced schemes like the job transformation scheme and expanded on the career conversion programmes.
Half of the employees who received assistance were from sectors that include education, Infocomm media and technology, financial services, construction, food services, precision engineering, logistics, professional services, wholesale trade and retail, and education.
Last year, there was a 20% rise in outreach programmes, and this has helped employers tap into a bigger talent pool. More than 1,500 employers have benefitted so far from these programmes.
Under the Job Redesign Reskilling Programme, which is part of the job transformative efforts, almost 350 employers have received support. According to MOM’s latest report, 35,600 employers have active postings on the MyCareersFuture job portal. This brings it to a 54% increase from 2019.
MOM’s report further highlighted the strategies that employers can begin tapping into. These strategies are meant to help them overcome the hiring challenges they might have been facing. One example of the strategy is to tap into the SGUnited Traineeship programme to expand on the talent pool they have access to.
MOM is also encouraging employers to rethink their job descriptions to garner a more positive response from applicants. Job roles could also be redesigned to turn them into meaningful careers that appeal to an applicant’s higher aspirations.
