The Business Times Features 3E Accounting at ACRA’s Online Training Programme for New Directors – 3 July 2019
The Business Times profiled 3E Accounting Company Director Lawrence Chai in its 3 July 2019 write-up, “Be a better director” that focuses on two online training programmes for new directors by the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (“ACRA”) Academy.
Not everyone is born to be a company director or entrepreneur. Many times, new directors are likely to gain some key information about the roles and responsibilities of a director and be given a brief induction when they are first appointed. The ACRA has developed two online training programmes to help new directors and entrepreneurs to chart their way effective directorship. The online training comprises the Directors Training Programme (“DTP”) and Essentials of Starting a Business (“ESB”) where training is designed to provide new directors and entrepreneurs with the fundamental skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
3E Accounting Company Director, Lawrence Chai, who attended the DTP said, “The course has empowered me with an enhanced understanding of the duties and responsibilities of being not just a company director, but a responsible and diligent company director. I have strengthened my grasp of knowledge and perspective which also allows me to confidently advise and assist my clients accordingly in the area.”
Help New Directors to Better Understand Their Role and Responsibilities
While DTP helps new company directors to understand their statutory duties and responsibilities, the ESB programme, on the other hand, equips new directors and entrepreneurs with important information on starting a business. The programmes are loaded with key information from ACRA and other government agencies (such as the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, Central Provident Fund Board, Ministry of Manpower, Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore and Enterprise Singapore) that will help new directors to better understand their role and responsibilities, fulfil their obligations as well as comply with Singapore law.
The DTP was launched in April 2018 and has since received strong participation numbers with more than 2,800 users signed up to date. The promising participation rate has reflected the relevancy and usefulness of the said online training programmes for new directors and entrepreneurs. Indeed, ACRA has received positive feedback that such training can help a new director fulfil his or her role and improve the company’s productivity and performance.
