Understanding the Ministry of Manpower (MOM)
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) is a governmental body in Singapore, and its mission is to ensure better employment opportunities and a secure retirement for Singaporeans. It’s responsible for devising and implementing policies related to labor.
MOM’s role includes providing services and information related to manpower, such as issuing work passes, guiding employment practices, ensuring workplace safety and health, and sharing labor market information.
Foreign individuals wishing to work and reside in Singapore require an appropriate visa. The MOM has the jurisdiction to issue work-related permits such as the Work Permits, S Pass, EP, PEP, and EntrePass. Moreover, foreigners planning to study or live in Singapore with their family will need a Student Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP), or Dependant’s Pass (DP) – which are also issued by the MOM.
