Singapore Is Rolling Out the Business Adaptation Grant and Expanding Worker Support Amid Global Tariff Pressures
Singapore is set to introduce a new Business Adaptation Grant to help companies adjust to tariff uncertainties and supply chain disruptions. This will be launched by October 2025.
The Business Adaptation Grant will provide up to S$100,000 per company on a co-funding basis. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will receive higher levels of assistance, while larger firms will be eligible for smaller amounts. More details will be shared later this year, and it is designed to support two groups:
- Exporters and overseas operators can use it for advisory services on free trade agreements, trade compliance, legal matters, supply chain optimisation, and market diversification.
- Manufacturers in Singapore and abroad can apply the grant to offset reconfiguration costs such as logistics and inventory management.
Helping Firms Stay Competitive
The Business Adaptation Grant will help firms remain competitive internationally, safeguarding investments and creating new jobs in Singapore across finance, legal services, research, and manufacturing. Young job seekers face skills, expectations, opportunities, and experience gaps. Many are concerned about entering a volatile job market, with artificial intelligence also affecting hiring trends. This grant will hopefully resolve that problem.
Employers in Singapore are being cautious, and around 70% have already implemented measures such as workforce restructuring, hiring pauses, and greater investment in training. Companies are now being urged to make full use of the Business Adaptation Grant and other support schemes to remain competitive.
A Positive Outlook Despite Challenges
The employment rate for the 2025 graduating cohort reached 51.9 per cent in June, up four points from a year earlier. Public sector demand is also steady, with about 2,400 vacancies available for fresh graduates in roles such as engineering and software development. To boost resilience, the Government will expand career guidance services through NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute and provide temporary enhanced funding for HR certifications to strengthen workforce management capabilities.
The Business Adaptation Grant reflects Singapore’s commitment to supporting companies and workers through global uncertainty, protecting livelihoods, building resilience, and ensuring Singapore stays competitive. That is the commitment of the nation.
