Singapore’s Government Launches Temporary Financial Support Scheme for Unemployed Job Seekers
Hello, financial support, goodbye stress. Starting 15 April, the Singapore government will roll out a new financial support program designed to assist lower- and middle-income residents who are currently unemployed. This is a massive sigh of relief for those who need it.
Under the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support (JS) scheme, eligible individuals can receive up to $6,000 in temporary financial assistance over a period of six months. This initiative is designed to ease the economic pressure on those who lost their jobs through no fault of their own.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Have a gross monthly income of $5,000 or less
- Live in a property with an annual value of $31,000 or below
- Have worked in Singapore for at least six of the past twelve months
However, there’s flexibility for those who became involuntarily unemployed on or after 1 April 2024. For these individuals, they may still be eligible even if they don’t meet the work history requirement, as long as they meet the other conditions. This move is part of a broader push to provide meaningful financial support during periods of unemployment. At the same time, the Government is helping to connect job seekers with reskilling opportunities under the SkillsFuture program.
