New Changes to the Dependant Privileges for Work Pass Holders in Singapore
As of 1st January 2018, there are going to be new salary criteria for work pass holders who want to qualify for the dependent pass privileges. As the main pass holder who is working in Singapore, you will now need:
- A minimum fixed salary of SGD$6,000 to bring in your spouse and children, and
- A minimum fixed salary of SGD$12,000 to bring in your parents.
Your eligibility as a work pass holder who is hoping to utilize the Dependent Pass privileges would also depend on your economic contribution, and how well you will be able to provide for your dependents who are going to live in Singapore with you. These new changes however, will only be applicable to the new Dependent Pass or Long Term Visa Pass applications which are applied either on or after the 1st of January 2018.
Earlier requirements stipulated that Employment Pass or S Pass holders with a minimum fixed salary of SGD$5,000 and a sponsorship from an established Singapore-registered company would be eligible.
Any new Dependent Pass (DP) applications for both spouses and children, as well at any Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) applications for parents which are received before the 1st of January 2018 will be assessed based on the current existing criteria.
Renewal applications for DPs and LTVPs which are approved or issued before the 1st of January 2018 will also be assessed based on the current existing criteria, as long as the main work pass holder continues to hold a valid working pass with an established employer.
If the work pass holder experiences a change in employer from the 1st of January 2018 onwards, the revised salary criteria should be met in accordance with the new requirements, if the work pass holder wants to retain their dependent privileges. Work pass holders should also take note that these changes are still applicable if they work for an overseas company but hold an Employment Pass which is sponsored by a local entity.
These changes will not be applicable to dependents if the work pass holder holds an Entrepass (Entrepreneur Pass) or a Personalized Employment Pass (PEP), because these passes will be assessed based on a different set of criteria.
