Supply Chain Management Talents Growing Rapidly in Singapore
Supply chain management talents are rapidly growing in Singapore, with 700 new jobs and training initiatives to be launched by 2025. The aim is to position Singapore as the supply chain management (SCM) hub manufacturers want to be.
Professionals, managers, executives, and technicians (PMETs) will stand to benefit from these initiatives, especially if they have digital and SCM knowledge. The upskilling programmes will equip the local workforce with the skills they need for the job, including sourcing, supply chain planning, logistics management, and procurement.
Preparing Supply Chain Management Talents for the Trends of the Future
The SCM industry is changing, and the workforce needs to evolve as well. Customer service officers, for example, will need advanced digital skills to maximise customer outreach. SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and the Economic Development Board (EDB) have identified three key trends that will transform the industry.
These trends are digital literacy, diversifying sources, and sustainability frameworks. Roles that the changing trends of the future will impact include freight officers, supply planners, warehouse executives, procurement specialists, and production managers.
With companies forced to diversify their supply chains to stay relevant, the only logical step is to look towards Southeast Asia, especially Singapore, as the next SCM hub. Almost 50% of existing SCM businesses in Asia Pacific are already planning to expand their business or build new manufacturing capacities within the next three years.
Upskilling for What’s To Come
As part of the Government’s efforts to nurture supply chain management talents, SkillsFuture will work with institutes of higher learning and develop training programmes to develop these skills. Employers who want to upskill their current workforce will benefit from these programmes.
Collaboration with stakeholders will be ongoing to enhance public awareness too. SCM professionals will also have a higher median salary to look forward to, starting at approximately S$5,900, higher than the national median salary.
Information on training, trends reshaping the future of SCM jobs, and in-demand skills will be available from 31 July on EDB’s website.
