Singapore Improving Work-Life Conditions as Demands Increase
Singapore made the news again as its work-life conditions improved. This time around, the city state is within the top 30 countries with attractive work-life conditions. Within Asia, Singapore is second, trailing behind Japan with enticing work-life conditions. By global ranking, the island city is currently at no. 26.
Remote, a human resource platform, reported the global ranking. The platform subjects nations to evaluating statutory annual leave, paid maternity leave and average hours worked per employee.
Singapore improved its work-life conditions by offering an average of 18 days of annual statutory leave and eight weeks of paid maternity leave. The overall index score for Singapore is 56.84, with New Zealand taking the top spot at 80.76.
Just a couple of years back, the island city was among the most overworked cities. But the pandemic led to the possibility of remote work arrangements and was an eye-opener that more workers are favouring the arrangements.
People After Purposeful Work and Meaningful Life
Despite assumptions that only specific generations were after work-life conditions, it is becoming apparent that people are after purposeful work and a meaningful life.
Thus, the Singapore government has been encouraging businesses and organisations to offer work-life harmony benefits such as non-statutory leave, including sick child or parental care leave, flexible work arrangements, extensive annual leave entitlements, and employee support schemes, including support for mental well-being.
As demands for work-life conditions grew, more employers adapted to the workforce demands to attract and retain their talents with opportune work-life conditions.
