3E Accounting observes SAF Day 2020 LIVE on MINDEFsg
On 1 July every year, Singapore comes together to celebrate the SAF Day. This is in commemoration of the founding of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF). Traditionally, this event takes place in the format of a military parade and ceremony at the SAFTI Military Institute in Jurong West and in the presence of the President of Singapore as the Commander-in-Chief. The traditional ceremony will also include the Chief of Defence Force as well as up to 3,000 military personnel. A traditional Trooping – the Colour ceremony will take place, along with the conferring of awards for the Singapore Armed Forces Best Unit Competition.
However, 2020 is not a traditional year. This year, due to COVID-19, SAF Day 2020 was organised online with LIVE streaming broadcast on Ministry Of Defence (MINDEF) Facebook, Youtube and Twitter pages. This has enabled many more Singaporeans to participate in the event conveniently and safely.
Being a small nation state, Singapore does not have the resources and other natural advantages that bigger states enjoy. Having a strong defence is necessary to ensure that we enjoy continued peace and stability, as well as our sovereignty, freedom and survival.
