Empowering Indonesia’s Women to Achieve Sustainable Business Development

Indonesia’s Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection wants to do two things. Empower women and encourage the business world to embrace gender equality. That is because the Ministry is a firm believer that sustainable business development can only be attained by empowering women. The business world must address the need for inclusive business practices.

Indonesia is currently home to 64.2 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The MSMEs contribute to 60% of Indonesia’s GDP. This amounts to more than IDR8.5 trillion. Statistics show that women own and run 64% of these MSMEs, making them crucial drivers of economic growth. Moreover, MSMEs in Indonesia also represent 97% of the workforce, forming the backbone of the national economy.
