Welcome to our E-Newsletter February 2018
I hope 2018 is treating you well!
2017 is now in the books. Looking back, the year was marked by volatility. The global economy had its ups and downs and the Singaporean property market experienced significant swings. Despite the challenges, we can see that the Singaporean economy is on a steady growth trend thanks to the combination of foreign investment and favorable business environment.
New Outlook of Global and Regional Economy
As the New Year begins, our (Singapore) housing market starts to see a steady recovery. Experts predict that the city-state’s real estate sector will see a spike in home sales and aggressive bids for land by developers. Many expect a growth of Singaporean employment market. Job gains were expected to increase where large-sized employers (250 or more employees) reporting a Net Employment Outlook of +19% while the outlook for medium-sized businesses (50-249 employees) stood at +14%; the outlook of small-sized businesses (10-49 employees) stood at +10% while Micro employers reported an outlook of +7%.
The positive outlook of Singaporean economy is indeed a good omen for investment. If you are considering expanding your business, Singapore will be your best destination to begin the global footprints of your company.
The Announcement of Singapore Budget 2018
With a new year comes new challenges and goals. The Ministry of Finance (MOF) has announced that Singapore’s 2018 Budget Statement will be delivered by Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat in Parliament on 19 February. The yet-to-be-announced Budget 2018 is expected to attract a fair amount of attention especially after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong signalled an impending tax hike last November. Though not much detail revealed on which tax may be raised and when it will happen, many expect the Budget statement to shed more light on the matter.
