Singapore Introduces New Grant of up to S$10,000 for Heartland Businesses
Singapore’s heartland businesses now have the opportunity to revitalise their communities through innovative placemaking initiatives. The newly introduced Heartland Enterprise Placemaking Grant (HEPG) aims to support projects such as community engagement activities, public art installations, workshops, and thematic festivals.
Minister of State for Trade and Industry, Low Yen Ling, revealed that the grant will cover up to 50% of eligible costs for selected placemaking activities in the heartlands, with a maximum cap of S$10,000 per project. Eligible expenses include third-party consultancy, hardware, equipment and software, marketing, and professional services like event management and auditing.
Eligibility Criteria and Application Process
To qualify, applicants must be Singapore businesses with at least 30% local shareholding, a physical storefront in the heartlands, fewer than 200 employees, and an annual turnover not exceeding S$100 million. Interested businesses can contact the Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore starting March 1st.
HEPG applicants are encouraged to explore innovative projects that expand their customer base, increase revenue, and identify new business models. Examples include community engagement activities, public art installations, workshops, and localised festivals. However, traditional activities such as festive light-ups and night markets are not covered by the grant.
Project Implementation and Support
Projects funded by the HEPG should be completed within 12 months of the grant application. The grant application process requires detailed company information, project descriptions, vendor quotations, and project costs. While companies can only apply for the HEPG once, they can seek assistance from the Heartland Enterprise Centre Singapore for guidance throughout the process.
The HEPG presents an exciting opportunity for heartland businesses to contribute to the vibrancy and liveliness of Singapore’s neighbourhoods. By fostering community engagement and creativity, these initiatives not only benefit local businesses but also enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
